Senator Reinert Sworn in as Legislative Session Begins

Senator Roger Reinert was sworn in at the Capitol on January 4 as the 2011 Legislative Session began. Sen. Reinert was elected on November 2 and represents Senate District 7, which includes most of the City of Duluth.

“I’m very excited to be a state senator and I’m ready to get to work,” he noted. “Opening Day at the Capitol is very festive, with family and friends joining legislators as they take their oaths and begin service to the people of the state.”

“However, I recognize that we have some hard work ahead of us and that we must face the serious challenge of a $6.2 billion budget deficit,” Sen. Reinert said. “Despite the excitement of being sworn in, I am also very sober and serious about the task that lies ahead.”

Because of the major task facing legislators, Sen. Reinert said he was disappointed that Thursday’s Senate floor session was cancelled and that there were very few committee meetings being held the rest of the week.

“We have a lot to do in the next four months,” he said. “I’m here ready to get to work immediately. I had hoped the GOP leadership would have been prepared to tackle the issues that face the state right out of the chute on Day One. I’m disappointed that we’re not doing anything this week except pomp and circumstance.”
