Sen. Latz Applauds Governor’s Work on Affordable Health Care

Sen. Ron Latz applauded Governor Mark Dayton’s quick response to expand health care options to Minnesotans and in making Minnesota government more efficient.
“This is exactly what Governor Dayton promised he would do: we’re making health care more affordable and government more efficient,” Sen. Latz said. “In this economy, this is the right thing to do.”
At a town hall meeting on Wednesday night, Sen. Latz said that the overwhelming majority of participants wanted the Medical Assistance expansion, which will bring $1.1 million in federal health care resources to the state, expand health care to 95,000 Minnesotans and help hospitals, clinics and nursing homes provide better care to the state.
The move by Governor Dayton and Human Services Commissioner Lucinda Jesson will speed up implementation by a full 7 months—from October to March—compared to the amount of time former Governor Pawlenty claimed it would take.
“It’s clear that the Pawlenty administration was dragging its heels in implementing this needed reform, in large part because of opposition to health care reform” Sen. Latz said. “That’s not the kind of leadership we need in Minnesota. We need to do what’s best for our state, regardless of politics.”
The Early Medical Assistance enrollment was Governor Dayton’s first act after he took the Oath of Office earlier this month.
“My constituents made it clear to me that they agreed with the Governor’s actions,” Sen. Latz said. “I appreciate that they came out on a very cold evening to express their opinions. For anyone who missed the recent meeting, I invite you to attend an upcoming event.”
