Sen. Sheran Introduces Bill for Dam Repair
Senator Kathy Sheran has introduced legislation for funding to repair the aging Lake Titlow Dam. The $900,000 request would be part of a larger Capital Investment bill, if passed.
“This dam is in dire need of repair,” Sen. Sheran said. “Three years ago the Department of Natural Resources reported that the dam was in poor condition and very unstable. We need to find funding before it gives way and we have more expensive problems on our hands.”
Sen. Sheran introduced the bill after the Governor requested that legislators introduce bonding projects to complement his Capital Investment proposal. Bonding bills, the Governor claims, will help boost Minnesota’s economy.
The DNR report also noted that the dam’s downstream area has been filled with broken concrete reinforcements, creating a rapids system.
Senator Sheran noted that she introduced the bill to start a discussion on the need for this dam’s repair.
“It is my job to alert folks at the Capitol that we have some serious infrastructure needs in our area,” she said. “While we are not in the Governor’s bonding proposal, we can start the conversation about what needs to be done for the dam, possibly add this project to those he recommends, or be considered in future bonding bills.”
