Stumpf Disappointed in Possible Post Office Closures

“In recent months, the United States Postal Service (USPS) announced it will be reviewing more than 3,600 postal offices for possible closure. In Northwest Minnesota, the post offices that will be reviewed include: Donaldson, Euclid, Lake Bronson, Strathcona, and Wannaska.
I am disappointed that our communities may be adversely affected by this restructuring. As new technology has emerged, the utilization of the post office has declined and this trend is projected to continue. However, I believe the post office is still an important service in our area.
Rural Minnesota is more dependent on the post office in many cases because of our lack of high speed internet and the demographics of our population. Additionally, it is important to have a post office for our local businesses. It is essential for local businesses to have easy access to the post office so their goods can reach the market in a timely fashion.
While this is a federal issue and cannot be addressed by the legislature, I still believe it is important that the USPS move forward in a deliberative manner. I encourage you to contact my office or our federal delegation with any questions or concerns you may have about this or any other topic.”
