Metzen will seek money during special session for local storm damage
With the possibility of a special session in the Minnesota Legislature on the horizon due to flooding in Northern Minnesota, State Senator James Metzen is considering asking for state money for the summer storms that hit the southeast metro.
To address the tree removal, some cities had to hire outside vendors and pay city workers overtime. “The financial cost of debris and tree removal was quite burdensome for the communities I represent,” stated Sen. Metzen. “I have been in contact with Mayors Zanmiller (West Saint Paul), Krebsbach (Mendota Heights), Baumann (South St. Paul), and Tourville (Inver Grove Heights) regarding the extent of the storm damage in their communities.”
Sen. Metzen believes with storm damage estimates in excess of $250,000, the cities should be considered for state aid. “For the communities I represent, $250,000 is a considerable amount of money given their budgets,” said Sen. Metzen.
