Sen. Tomassoni Encourages Job Seekers to Visit Chisholm’s Mining Industry Day this Friday
St. Paul – Friday January 25th, job seekers across the state will gather at the Minnesota Discovery Center for Chisholm’s Mining Industry Day. Held in the heart of Minnesota’s renowned Iron Range, the hiring event will showcase more than a dozen companies with job openings in the mining industry.
“For more than a century, the Range has employed thousands of hard working folks,” said Senator David Tomassoni (Chisholm). “The fact that employment opportunities on the Range are growing is a huge testament to our successful development of the next generation of mining.”
According to data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, northeastern Minnesota has experienced about a 25% mining job increase over the past two years. Today, the Range’s mining industry is home to more than 4,500 jobs. Sen. Tomassoni is confident the growth of new mining opportunities, such as copper-nickel mining, Mesabi Nugget, Magnetation, and Essar Steel will help drive the Range’s economy into the future and create even more good paying jobs.
During the event, job seekers will have the chance to learn about some of the biggest mining industry employers. The careers available range from entry level to skilled positions. All potential employees are advised to bring a resume and be prepared for on-the-spot interviews.
“What’s great about this event is the wide range of opportunities available. Folks from all kinds of educational and career backgrounds will have the chance to find a new job right for them,” continued Tomassoni. “It’s also a great chance to get our kids energized about the mining industry. The Minnesota Discovery Center has great exhibits for students to learn essential background about the industry.”
The event runs from 10am until 2pm in Chisholm, MN at the Minnesota Discovery Center.
