Senator Roger Reinert named Chair of Legislative Audit Commission
ST. Paul, MN – Today January 31, 2013, State Senator Roger Reinert (DFL – Duluth) was elected Chair of the Legislative Audit Commission. From 2011-2012, Sen. Reinert served as chair of the LAC Topic Selection subcommittee.
“Serving on the Legislative Audit Commission has been a highlight of my time in the Legislature,” said Senator Reinert. “It’s our version of the Congressional Budget Office – a non-partisan source of information on what government in Minnesota is doing, and how it’s doing it.”
The Legislative Audit Commission is a bi-partisan commission with twelve total members – six from the House and six from the Senate. Membership is equally divided between the majority and minority parties. The commission appoints the Legislative Auditor and selects topics for the Program Evaluation Division to review.
Over the course of the legislative session, the LAC examines current and future programs in Minnesota as well as issues and their potential solutions.
“I’m pleased with the opportunity to lead the Commission,” said Senator Reinert. “Its work is important in ensuring we get the best product and return for our public investments. And the non-partisan, academic, nature of the work suits my legislative style well.”
