Photo Cutline: Senator Carlson discusses school lunches, childhood nutrition with experts
After hearing testimony in the education committee about increasing state money for school lunches, Senator Jim Carlson (DFL – Eagan) met with a group from ISD 196, Food & Nutrition Services to discuss the importance of having students eat healthy school lunches. The two bills heard in committee provide free lunches for children from low-income families.
“Whenever possible, I try to meet with people from the district on issues,” said Sen. Carlson. “The folks from the food and nutrition services provided valuable insight on balancing tight school budgets with the importance of providing students with healthy student lunches. Kids who are properly nourished tend to do better in school.”
