Senator Bonoff Holds Google Hangout to Discuss Future of Higher Education in MN

Senator Terri Bonoff, Chair of the Senate Committee on Higher Education and Workforce Development, was joined yesterday by a cross-section of Minnesota students and faculty for an online discussion about the Senate Higher Education Omnibus bill and the future of higher education in Minnesota. The video of the hangout can be viewed at terribonoff.org/hangout. This is the first in a series of hangouts planned by the Senate DFL Caucus to engage different stakeholders in their budget plan.

“The internet and new technologies like this are making government more participatory, more transparent, and more efficient. I jumped at the opportunity to do this and I’m glad we had a group interested in joining the conversation in this way,” said Senator Bonoff. “Our bill was developed with young people at the forefront, so it was great to have a chance to talk with student leaders who are engaged with this process.”

The Senate recently achieved bi-partisan agreement when they passed the Higher Education & Workforce Development Omnibus bill. This bill moves Minnesota forward by reducing costs to students, increases access to educational opportunities and prepares the workforce of tomorrow.

The proposal is expected to be referred to a Senate-House conference committee and would still face a final vote by the legislature before being sent to the Governor’s desk.
