Senator Eken: A Legislator of Distinction
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senator Kent Eken (DFL – Twin Valley) was recently acknowledged as a Legislator of Distinction by the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities (CGMC) for his positive work for economic development. The award is given to legislators who advance economic development in greater Minnesota.
“I’m honored to receive this distinction from the coalition. As an advocate for Greater Minnesota, I know that our state does better when all corners are represented and treated fairly,” said Senator Eken. “I’m looking forward to continuing in my work supporting the needs of Greater Minnesota.
The CGMC highlighted his role as the chief author of legislation for the Greater Minnesota Internship Program (SF241), which addresses demographic challenges that are facing rural areas, an aging workforce and young workers moving to metropolitan areas.
“Sen. Eken’s perseverance and determination were key to successfully passing into law $2 million per year in tax credits for Greater Minnesota businesses to hire new interns,” said Bruce Ahlgren, President of the CGMC and Mayor of Cloquet. “This program is a win-win: providing students with paid internships and businesses the opportunity to keep brainpower in Greater Minnesota.”
