Starting on October 1st, Minnesota’s health care exchange began its open enrollment. Minnesota’s state-created exchange, MnSure offers a centralized location for individuals, families and small businesses to shop for health insurance with a real apples-to-apples comparison of plan premiums, coverage levels and available providers within networks.
Many people may have questions about the exchange. Those looking for information on the new system should visit MNsure’s website at www.mnsure.org. This is the best way to see just how to take advantage of this great service. Once there, you will find information on the benefits of MNsure, how the marketplace works, what the plans will cost and ways to ask specific questions. Most importantly, you’ll be able to find the best insurance plan available.
If you’d like to speak to someone directly, MNsure has a call center to answer any questions you may have. The phone number is 1-855-3-MNSURE (1-855-366-7873), and the center is open Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. In addition to the assistance available within MNsure, there is a growing statewide network of organizations and agents/brokers to help you select the plan that fits your needs which is now available and searchable geographically on MNsure’s website.
Thankfully, Minnesota’s decision to create a state-run exchange has let us avoid many of the problems that the federally-run exchange has run into. The results of this decision are paying off too! On average MNsure offers lower rates than any other state-based exchange in the nation.
