Anoka-Ramsey Community College to Benefit From DEED Grant

ST. PAUL, MINN. – Through a public private partnership, Anoka-Ramsey Community College was awarded a Minnesota Jobs Skills Partnership (MJSP) grant worth $49,475 from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). The grant will help pay for jobs training provided through the community college for 35 Elk River-based Alliance Machine employees.

“MJSP is a wonderful program that brings together private companies with public resources, which means everybody benefits. This specialty training for a growing machining company in the area is great for Alliance Machine, Anoka-Ramsey Community College and the region as a whole. This program is an excellent example of business and government working together successfully for a shared purpose,” said Sen. John Hoffman, who sits on the Governor’s Workforce Development Council and represents the communities of Champlin, Brooklyn Park and Coon Rapids.

The MJSP works with both businesses and educational institutions like Anoka-Ramsey, to train or retrain workers, expand work opportunities and keep high-quality jobs in the state. A total of $8.4 million in funding was allocated during the 2013 legislative session for the program.

Alliance Machine is a veteran-owned-and-operated company which specializes in medium to complex machining and serves the defense, aerospace and medical industries. According to DEED the entire Alliance Machine workforce will participate in one to seven courses onsite. The courses include Business Process Analysis, Pitched Based Scheduling, Managing for Daily Improvement, Energy Efficiency for Manufacturing and more. Anoka-Ramsey Community College will provide hourly-based certificates for employees who complete training successfully.
