Eaton issues statement on advancement of Women’s Economic Security Act
ST. PAUL, MINN. – Senator Chris Eaton (DFL – Brooklyn Center) was pleased with the Senate’s passing of the Women’s Economic Security Act, a collection of legislative reforms that aim to provide equal opportunities and pay for female workers.
“What we accomplished in the Senate today was a win for not only women, but all Minnesotans,” said Sen. Eaton, whose success in working to raise the minimum wage will be furthered by the passage of WESA. “We know that traditionally women and minorities make up a large section of minimum wage jobs, but thanks to this package advancing, those workers will be encouraged to enter non-traditional, high-wage jobs. This will empower our workforce and help our families.”
The Women’s Economic Security Act will go to Conference Committee next, where the House and Senate will work out any differences in their respective omnibus bills.
