Sen. Chuck Wiger Receives ‘Friend of Public Education Award’
ST. PAUL, MINN. – The Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD) has selected Sen. Chuck Wiger (D-Maplewood) to receive its ‘Friend of Public Education Award.’ The organization credits his leadership in the Senate and his work in securing supplemental funding for E-12 education as reasons for the honor. Sen. Wiger will receive his award at the AMSD board of directors meeting on Friday, Aug. 8.
“The past biennium has really seen historic spending on public education, and I couldn’t be more proud to be Chair of the Senate E-12 Finance Committee. Investing in our children by increasing early childhood education spending, English language learners programs and putting more money into the basic formula are all part of closing the achievement gap,” said Sen. Wiger. He added, “I’d like to thank the AMSD for this very special honor.”
The AMSD was created in 1974 and represents 38 K-12 school districts, which equals roughly half of all of Minnesota’s students.
