Sen. Greg Clausen Receives 2014 Friend of Public Education Award

ST. PAUL – The Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD) awarded Senator Greg Clausen with the Friend of Public Education Award on Friday, August 8, for his exceptional leadership, advocacy and support of public education and issues important to metropolitan school districts. Sen. Clausen is pictured receiving the award from Jane Berenz, Superintendent of Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools.
According to AMSD, Sen. Clausen was selected for the award because of his outstanding contributions to public education in the 2014 session. “Sen. Clausen is a strong advocate for public education; he worked on issues such as all-day Kindergarten, school facilities funding and teacher and principal evaluations,” said AMSD Executive Director Scott Croonquist. “Sen. Clausen worked across party lines to secure changes to make the legislation less burdensome for school districts while still protecting students and staff.”
According to Croonquist, “AMSD members are extremely thankful for the outstanding bi-partisan leadership provided by Sen. Clausen. He was a voice of reason during difficult negotiations and he urged his colleagues to respect local control and firmly opposed unnecessary and burdensome reporting requirements and mandates.”
