Sen. Hawj Attends Conference for Newly Elected Legislators

ST. PAUL, Minn. – State Sen. Foung Hawj (DFL-St. Paul) was one of 37 Midwestern legislators selected through a competitive process to attend the 20th annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) earlier this month (August 8-12) in Madison, Wis. As state and local governments are tasked with duties that were traditionally performed by the federal government, the Bowhay Institute was formed to help new legislators meet these increased demands on the states. In addition to courses designed to develop leadership skills, the program analyzes a variety of public policy issues, including corrections and the regional economy.

“Attending the BILLD conference was incredibly informative. I am honored to be awarded this unique five-day educational training for legislators that furthers my knowledge, so I can do an even better job of representing the people of East St. Paul,” said Hawj.

Hawj was joined by fellow Minnesota legislators Sen. Vicki Jenson (DFL-Owatonna) and Rep. Ron Kresha (R-Little Falls). The attendees arrived from the 11 Midwestern states along with several Canadian provinces.
