Senator Tomassoni Honored with Solar and Tech Industry Awards

ST. PAUL, MINN. – Sen. David Tomassoni (DFL-Chisholm) was awarded twice in two weeks for advancing legislation in both the solar energy and technology fields. On Nov. 5, Tomassoni was awarded the Excellence in Minnesota Solar Leadership Award from the Minnesota Solar Energy Industries Association (MnSEIA) for his work on the Solar Energy Standard which was a big step forward in advancing our state’s energy policy.

“I’m really proud of our legislatures’ work on increasing solar energy usage throughout the state. Likewise, the provision put in place last year that incentivizes ‘Made in Minnesota’ solar modules helps maintain and create jobs here at home. I’m honored to be recognized by MnSEIA,” said Tomassoni.

On Thursday, November 13 Tomassoni was also given the Tekne Award for Public Service from the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA). The association said it recognized Tomassoni’s leadership in helping expand the SciTechsperience Internship Program – a program that connects Minnesota college students with internships at science and technology-based companies throughout the state. Internship-granting companies receive assistance finding qualified candidates and a $1:$1 matching grant to cover the intern’s wages. MHTA also recognized Tomassoni’s work on helping increase access to broadband throughout the state

“Minnesota is thriving in part, because we have so many successful technology companies. I want to support these companies and students who are interested in STEM fields by connecting the two. Broadband is also critical to a companies’ success and we clearly need to expand broadband throughout greater Minnesota, MHTA is working towards that goal as well and I’d like to thank them for this award,” said Tomassoni.
