Sen. Johnson Appointed to Finance Committee
(St. Paul, MN)- Senator Alice Johnson (DFL-Blaine) was recently appointed to the Senate Finance Committee, which is responsible for examining and approving all budget-related items before they are sent on to the full Senate body. Membership of this important committee is generally restricted to long-serving Senate leaders from both parties who have demonstrated a strong track record of responsible fiscal management and sound judgement. When an open position was created on the committee, Sen. Johnson was appointed by Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk.
“This is a great honor, and I am humbled to have been chosen for this committee,” said Sen. Johnson. “Helping to manage Minnesota’s finances is a serious responsibility, and I will continue to put the best interests of my constituents first as I consider the bills in front of this committee.”
While the committee will only meet a few more times this year, those meetings will be critical to resolving the budget differences between the House and the Senate as both chambers attempt to negotiate a final budget that will benefit all Minnesotans. After session concludes, the committee will begin to meet again at the start of the 2016 Legislative Session.
Sen. Johnson already sits on the State and Local Government Committee, Education Policy Committee, the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement, and serves as Vice Chair on the Education Finance Division, a more specialized subset of the full Finance Committee to which she was just appointed.
