Senator Eaton calls for statewide recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day

On the holiday that’s been traditionally known as Columbus Day, Senator Chris Eaton (DFL – Brooklyn Center) called for the State of Minnesota to begin observing Indigenous Peoples Day on the second Monday of October each year.

“Cities around the nation including Minneapolis celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day rather than Columbus Day, and I think it’s time we observe this new and improved holiday across the state. It’s important to know our country’s true history and that we honor the right people. In honor of the first Americans, I believe the State of Minnesota should rename Columbus Day and hereby officially observe and celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day.”
