Greg Clausen sworn in for second term as Minnesota State Senator

ST. PAUL, Minn – Senator Greg Clausen (DFL – Apple Valley) was sworn in on Thursday at the newly re- opened Minnesota State Capitol. Senator Clausen is beginning his second term as the State Senator representing District 57, to which he was first elected in 2012. Senator Clausen served as an educator for over 40 years in the Bloomington and Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools. During the 2017 Session, Senator Clausen will serve as the ranking DFL member on the Higher Education Policy and Higher Education Finance Committees and as a member of the E-12 Policy Committee. Senator Clausen is also a leading voice in health care issues, most recently serving as the Co-Chair of the Legislative Health Care Workforce Commission. Their final report to the Legislature was submitted in December, 2016.

“I am honored to take the oath of office for a second term as Senator for District 57” said Sen. Clausen. “In my first term, we made incredible progress in E-12 and Higher Education, health care reform, and reducing taxes on our communities and small businesses. Faced with a $627 million budget deficit in 2013, the Legislature implemented sound policies aimed at strengthening Minnesota’s future. As we begin the 2017-18 biennial budget process, the state faces a $1.4 billion surplus as a result of that hard work. I hope the Legislature will be mindful of the future impacts of this year’s budget and I will continue to work to provide targeted tax relief, reforms to lower the cost of health care, full E-12 funding, and support for families struggling to pay the cost of higher education.”

A former teacher, coach, and Assistant Principal, Senator Clausen served as Principal of Rosemount High School for over a decade and most recently worked to secure federal and state program funding as a District 196 Administrator. Senator Clausen received his degree in Social Sciences and Education at Augsburg College and later received an M.A. in Education Curriculum and Instruction and an Ed. Specialist Degree in Education Administration from the University of St. Thomas.

Senator Clausen and his wife Roberta have three children, five grandsons, and one granddaughter.
