Pappas Responds to President Trump’s Executive Order on Immigration
St. Paul, Minn – State Senator Sandra Pappas (DFL-St. Paul) is outraged at the racism and injustices in President Trump’s series of immigration-related executive orders signed on Jan. 25. These efforts included orders enabling construction of a proposed wall on the Mexican border, enacting a ban on most refugees and suspending visas for several African and Middle Easter counties, and targeting cities where local leaders refuse to hand over illegal immigrants for deportation. In response, Sen. Sandra Pappas released the following statement:
“President Trump’s extreme rhetoric on immigration has been dividing our country without solving any problems. I am fully dedicated to an America that values immigrants including providing them with a pathway to citizenship. Immigration is good for American workers and America’s economy.
Many immigrants are professionals or business owners. Others work in factories, meat packing plants, or are roofers —often jobs non-immigrants won’t do.
America must remain a sanctuary for people who seek a better life by working hard and becoming law-abiding citizens. We are a proud country that values people for their hard work, ingenuity, and talents regardless of their country of origin, race, or class. I strongly stand against these racist and short-sighted executive orders.”
