Senator Clausen: Statement on Sunday Sales Passage

St. Paul, Minn. – Senator Greg Clausen (DFL–Apple Valley) provided the following statement after voting “Yes” on Sunday alcohol sales.

“After hearing overwhelming support from my constituents, today I decided to vote in favor of Sunday alcohol sales,” said Sen. Clausen. “I still have serious concerns about how this change will affect family-run and municipal store sales. In previous sessions, I have seen an equal number of constituents contact me in favor of, and against, legalizing Sunday sales. However, this session, I overwhelmingly heard from constituents in favor of the legislation. As your elected official, it is my duty to represent your views in St. Paul. When I say that constituent feedback is the most important factor in deciding how I vote, I mean it, and sometimes that means I vote against what I feel is best for my district.”

“I appreciate the activism and engaged nature of this debate, and I look forward to hearing from my constituents on other important issues as the session continues,” Clausen concluded.
