Sen. Klein supports April 28 budget target deadline

ST. PAUL, Minn. – On Friday, April 28, legislative conference committees have said they will release negotiated budget targets. This date is two weeks after the spring break and leaves three full weeks to finish up and pass all major budget bills. Senate Republicans have committed to avoiding a chaotic end of session. The April 28 deadline, proposed by Republicans, is an essential part of ensuring that outcome.

“Republican Leaders committed to having budget targets by April 28. This is an essential deadline to ensure we get our work done for Minnesotans on time,” Sen. Klein (DFL-Mendota Heights) said. “I’m hopeful that Republicans can keep the promise they made to Minnesotans to have a transparent, organized approach to legislation in these last few weeks, and keep their promise to have budget targets for all Minnesotans to see on April 28.”

“My Senate DFL colleagues have worked hard in partnership with Governor Dayton to get Minnesota’s economy back on solid ground. With a $1.5 billion surplus, my constituents want investments in transportation, education, and health care. There is no reason to make severe cuts in these essential areas right now,” Klein added.
