Senator Franzen Receives 2017 Housing Leadership Award
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senator Melisa Franzen, DFL-Edina, received a 2017 Housing Leadership Award from Housing First Minnesota for her work throughout the 2017 Legislative Session promoting homeownership at a price families can afford. Housing First Minnesota is a grassroots coalition focused on increasing access to safe and affordable homes for all Minnesotans.
“Housing is an issue that affects everyone’s daily lives. It is a core necessity to ensure families prosper. I am committed to working with housing advocates and stakeholders to provide opportunities so that all Minnesotans have stable and affordable housing no matter economic status or zip code. It is essential we work to meet this basic need so we can all benefit as a healthy society and community,” said Franzen.
Sen. Franzen authored several bills to promote stable, affordable housing and strong communities during the 2017 Legislative Session, including:
- A bill to provide grants for community based housing services (S.F. 557).
- A bill regarding a housing trust fund and homelessness prevention and assistance (S.F. 2282).
- A bill for food shelf programs appropriations, including an appropriation to provide diapers in food shelves (S.F. 249).
Senator Melisa Franzen represents Senate District 49, which includes the communities of Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina, and Minnetonka. She serves on the Tax and Transportation Finance and Policy Committees.
