Senator John Hoffman Announces Support for Governor Dayton’s Pre-K Funding Request

St. Paul, Minn. – Senator John Hoffman (DFL-Champlin) today announced his support for Governor Mark Dayton’s proposal to make permanent a previous one-time appropriation for voluntary pre-Kindergarten. If the Legislature takes no action, significant funding for the Anoka-Hennepin and Osseo school districts will run out.

“Time and again, research shows that early childhood education provides an excellent return on investment to taxpayers,” said Sen. Hoffman. “I applaud Governor Dayton’s decision to renew this vital pre-K funding for our local school districts and for other children across the state.”

Local one-time funds approved in a previous legislative session are as follows:

Osseo Public School District

Approx. 51 pre-K students

Received $254,195 in one-time spending

Anoka-Hennepin Public School District

Approx. 32 pre-K students

Received $172,716 in one-time spending
