Senator Jim Carlson Announces Support for Emergency Education Appropriation to Prevent Teacher Layoffs in Burnsville, Eagan
St. Paul, Minn. – Senator Jim Carlson (DFL-Eagan) today announced his support for an emergency K-12 education appropriation introduced by Governor Mark Dayton this week. The plan for an emergency appropriation is in response to Star Tribune reporting that revealed many Twin Cities metropolitan region school districts are facing budget deficits and will lay off hundreds of teachers as a result, including teachers in Eagan and Burnsville.
“I want to thank Governor Dayton for bringing forth a plan to prevent 240 Minnesotans from losing their jobs and paychecks,” said Sen. Carlson. “Teachers do not get nearly enough credit for the invaluable job they perform on a daily basis. An emergency appropriation to prevent massive layoffs in Burnsville, Eagan, and elsewhere is the right thing to do.”
