Assistant Minority Leader Senator Jeff Hayden Responds to Human Services Committee Hearing Scheduled Amid COVID-19 Concerns

SAINT PAUL, MN— Today, amid a joint announcement from House and Senate leaders at the Minnesota Legislature to scale back operations in order to ensure the safety of members, staff, and the public, the senate committee on Human Services Reform Finance and Policy is still scheduled to meet. Assistant Minority Leader, and ranking minority member on the Human Services Reform Finance and Policy Committee, Senator Jeff Hayden’s response is below.

“In order to comply with the Minnesota Department of Health’s guidelines including social distancing and limiting large gatherings, almost all committee hearings have been canceled in the Senate. The Human Services Reform committee has failed to follow suit amid increasing COVID-19 spread concerns,” said Assistant Minority Leader Senator Jeff Hayden. “In order to comply with the guidelines supported by leadership in both bodies at the legislature, I will not be attending the committee hearing in person. In order to preserve the health and safety of my colleagues and the public, I will instead be tracking committee actions remotely. As the ranking DFL member on the committee, I have strongly encouraged my DFL colleagues that serve on the committee to do the same.”
