Senator Simonson Statement on Second Special Session

The Minnesota Senate adjourned its second Special Session early Monday morning, after having passed a package of policing reforms. However, the Senate adjourned without acting on a bonding bill. In response, Senator Erik Simonson (DFL-Duluth) released the following statement.

Police Accountability Measures Fail to Deliver Necessary Reform

On Tuesday, the Minnesota Senate passed five bills related to police accountability measures in response to the murder of George Floyd. Despite attempts by members of the People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) Caucus and other DFL members of the Senate to include additional community-led proposals, no additional legislation was considered.

With Regular Session Adjourned, Senator Simonson Remains Committed to Providing Relief During COVID-19 Crisis

The 91st Session of the Minnesota Legislature adjourned at midnight Sunday night, bringing an extraordinary legislative session to a close. Much of the focus of this year’s session was upended by COVID-19 and its impact on the public health and economy of Minnesota. The legislature responded with a series of relief bills, but work remains to address the continued crisis, including a jobs-focused bonding bill that invests in Duluth.
