In the wake of the 2016 session ending without passage of a Bonding Bill, Sen. Roger Reinert (DFL-Duluth) released the following statement calling for a special session.
During a more than seven hour floor debate on Thursday, Sen. Roger Reinert (DFL-Duluth) successfully added two amendments onto the Senate’s $489 million budget bill. The first amendment directs the Department of Public Safety to evaluate potential locations for oil-related safety training for first responders. The second amendment calls on the University of Minnesota to provide the legislature additional information on how it constructs its budgeting for greater Minnesota campuses.

The 2016 Legislative Session began at noon today – the start of what will be one of the shortest sessions in years. The focus of this session will feature debates on a comprehensive transportation funding package, taxes, and a significant bonding bill. This will also be Sen. Roger Reinert’s (DFL-Duluth) final legislative session. After eight years at the Capitol, he will leave public service in 2016.
After serving nearly 15 years in public office, Sen. Roger Reinert (DFL-Duluth) announced today he will not run for re-election in 2016. Reinert said the time was right to step away. “2015 was amazing. I finished my first year of law school, was promoted to Lt. Commander in the Navy, and most importantly – got married. 2016 is the right time for the next chapter of life.”
