St. Paul, Minn.—In response to House Republicans’ Moorhead visit today to the critical rail grade crossing project, Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk (DFL-Cook) has released the following statement.
“I am glad to learn that House Republicans are now vocal supporters for rail safety, and specifically the rail grade crossing in Moorhead—a project Republicans did not fund in their initial bonding bill. I am pleased they now agree with how important this rail crossing project is to the city of Moorhead, but disappointed that their change of heart came only after going home early and letting the bill that funded the project die,” Bakk said.
Sen. Kent Eken (DFL-Twin Valley) has been a vigilant advocate for the project and worked closely with Bakk and Senate Capital Investment Committee chair Sen. Leroy Stumpf to ensure that it be included in the Senate bonding bills. The project also has the support of Lt. Gov. Tina Smith and Gov. Mark Dayton who also included it in their bonding bill.
