Bakk Statement on Hibbing Judiciary Hearing

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senate DFL Leader Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook, released the following statement at the close of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in Hibbing, Minn.

“After months of requests to have public hearings for bills related to gun violence prevention, I appreciate the willingness of Senate Republicans to add two DFL bills to their Hibbing agenda. Thank you for providing a public forum for this discussion and thank you for coming to the Northland. I hope to see another public hearing on these bills when formal votes can be considered.

“Sen. Ron Latz has worked with Minnesotans from both sides of the aisle to craft bills that could prevent gun violence, including deaths by suicide. We should not continue to do nothing. I encourage Sen. Limmer and Senate Republican leadership to work with Sen. Latz and DFL senators to find solutions that generate bipartisan support. Minnesotans want action, and that’s the best way we get something important done on this issue.”
