Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) has a strong commitment for programming that supports education for employment. Training students in technology fields that move them into the workforce is good for students and helps grow Minnesota’s economy.
One of DCTC’s most innovative programs is in the transportation and technology field. In fact, this program at DCTC has become a local and national model. However, because the program is so popular, it needs additional lab and shop space to keep up with the growing demand. The DCTC is requesting $7.6 million in the 2014 Bonding Bill to help expand the program, build more labs and workspace as well as improve current facilities. This investment will eventually add more highly-trained workers into our economy.
We should do all that we can to support training skilled workers. I view this as a good investment in a proven program with an impressive graduation placement rate – more than 95 percent of graduates finding employment in their field within six months of graduation. I hope this project makes it into the final bonding bill.
