Claims payment for those wrongfully convicted

This bill would authorize the payment of claims against the state. This includes three people who have been wrongfully convicted, and also those injured on sentence to serve crews. In 2014, the legislature passed the Imprisonment and Exoneration Remedies Act, which enabled those who were wrongfully convicted to make a claim against the state to compensate them for damages resulting from their wrongful conviction. The legislation would authorize the payment of those claims, as well as allowing the Department of Corrections and other agencies to pay claims up to $7,000 without legislative approval. (S.F. 3094)
