ST. PAUL, Minn. – Monday’s special session brings disaster relief funding for counties and cities hit hard by June storms, including much of Hennepin County. The storms uprooted trees, ripped up sidewalks and curbs and damaged park buildings across Minneapolis.
Senator Scott Dibble (DFL-Minneapolis) released the following statement:
“Today reaffirms that when Minnesotans are in need of assistance, we can overcome our partisan differences. These funds will go to needed repairs across a wide area, and will help offset the extraordinary costs borne by emergency responders in the immediate aftermath, fixing sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and minor damage to park buildings, as well as cleanup of downed trees in neighborhoods and parks across Minneapolis.”
The 18 counties who received federal disaster declarations from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will receive $13.5 million in federal funds, with today’s special session granting an additional $4.5 million in state funding to provide the necessary matching dollars to fully fund the estimated $18 million in public damage and expenses.
