Hayden responds to South Minneapolis deaths by murder and suicide
SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Assistant Senate DFL Leader Jeff Hayden, DFL-Minneapolis, released the following statement after four constituents were killed by gun violence in the district he represents.
“It’s long past time for us to come together and use the tools we have at the legislature to help keep more Minnesotans safe from domestic violence and gun violence. I’ve personally seen gun violence through a very different lens since July 23, 2016 – the day my sister Taylor, an innocent bystander, became a victim of senseless gun violence. Our community is in pain and we must take action to start to heal. Last session, the Senate DFL introduced two bills that focused on curtailing gun violence. It’s time for my Republican colleagues to step up and make safety the ultimate priority by passing gun violence prevention measures. We have a lot of work to do and there’s no time for excuses or inaction.”
