Hearing scheduled for legislation to extend Metro Mobility services

A bill to extend Metro Mobility services to the city of Lakeville through the Met Council transit taxing district is scheduled to receive a hearing next week. Metro Mobility provides rides to seniors and residents with disabilities throughout the metro area for a modest fee. Although Lakeville is already a part of the transit taxing district, it is not eligible for Metro Mobility service without this legislation. The plan estimates six new buses will be purchased to provide seniors and people with disabilities rides once the service is up and running.

Similar legislation was authored last session and attempted to amend the 2018 Omnibus Supplemental Budget Bill to include Lakeville, Maple Plain, Forest Lake, Ramsey, and Columbus in the list of cities eligible for Metro Mobility service through the transit taxing district. These communities are within the Met Council transit tax district but are also not eligible for Metro Mobility services. (SF 65)
