Senator Carolyn Laine was first elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2016. Her legislative experience started in the Minnesota House of Representatives, where she served for ten years. She represents Senate District 41 which covers the communities of Columbia Heights, Fridley, Hilltop, New Brighton, St. Anthony Village and a small portion of Spring Lake Park.
Carolyn grew up in Hibbing, MN and is the mother of five children. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth and also has a master’s degree, as well as three years of PhD studies in health psychology. She is a proud 45-year resident of Columbia Heights and New Brighton.
Carolyn has a background in education and has retired as a teacher in the Minneapolis Public School District. She also served for 10 years on the Columbia Heights School Board. Carolyn is currently serving as part-time Financial Director for the educational non-profit Novalis Institute.
Carolyn’s legislative goals as a state senator include making the institution more responsive, transparent and accountable to the people of Minnesota. She also prioritizes finding solutions to our existing health care model and is a champion for early childhood learning opportunities. She also plans to work on strengthening environmental protections and making college more affordable.
