SAINT PAUL, Minn. — While budget negotiations stretched legislative work into a special session, Assistant Senate DFL Leader Susan Kent, DFL-Woodbury, announced her plan to refuse per diem pay for work associated with a special session.
“I believe refusing to take any pay during a special session sends a message consistent with my beliefs,” said Kent. “Legislators have one job in a budget year – to pass a balanced budget for the next two years. That’s clearly not what happened, and I’m willing to work overtime without pay to finish the work for the people of my district and Minnesota. I ran for the state Senate to be a strong voice for the people in Woodbury, Maplewood, and Oakdale. To me, that means if my work isn’t done when session adjourns, I won’t expect taxpayers to foot the bill.”
