A bipartisan press conference introducing the Let’s Talk Now and Advance Care Planning acts was held Wednesday, with Sens. Sheran, Franzen, Marty, Senjem, and Rosen participating. Both bills provide support in encouraging families and communities to talk early about life stage planning. The legislation not only encourages discussions around financial planning, but also includes spiritual accommodations, respite care, and treatment management.
The Let’s Talk Now Act (S.F. 410) provides grants to non-profit organizations that inspire and support community conversations to promote planning for the transitions that come with aging. The Advance Care Planning Act (S.F. 407) provides a grant to an organization that will provide statewide training to people in faith, medical, and social services communities who help families engage in these often challenging conversations.
The two bills were presented before the Health, Human Services and Housing Committee immediately following the press conference. Both bills passed unanimously and were referred to the Finance Committee.
