State Senator David Tomassoni represents District 5, which includes a significant chunk of the Iron Range in northeastern Minnesota. First elected to the Minnesota House in 1992, Tomassoni served four terms there before running and winning a Senate seat in 2000.

A graduate of Chisholm High School, Tomassoni got his business administration degree from the University of Denver and played varsity hockey there. After college, he played professional hockey in Italy for 16 years and skated for Team Italy in the 1980 and 1984 Winter Olympic Games.  He returned to Minnesota in 1990 and has an insurance office in his hometown.

With his wife, Charlotte, Tomassoni lives in Chisholm. They have three grown children.
