Legislators from both sides of the aisle met on Jan. 7 for the annual One Minnesota Conference, an event that affords lawmakers the opportunity to put aside partisanship and focus on what matters most to their constituents. Both the Minnesota State Senate and House of Representatives gathered to hear from speakers on issues that will be taken up by each body in the coming months.
Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk and House Speaker-designate Kurt Daudt joined their fellow members and policy experts at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs for the retreat. Topics discussed included the state’s budget, economy, demographic trends, challenges and opportunities in the 2015 Legislative Session.
The day proved to be one of productive discourse among members, who placed a focus on what unites the Legislature rather than what divides it.
