Senator Roger Reinert’s bill (SF385), which would help fund much-needed renovations to Wade Stadium, was heard last night in the Senate Capital Investment Committee. Testifying in support of the bill were Brian Hanson, Director of Business and Community Development for the City of Duluth, and Craig Smith, General Manager of the Duluth Huskies.
Reinert’s bill would appropriate $4,000,000 in bonding to make a number of improvements to the grandstand and field at the stadium, including upgrades to the field’s drainage system. The city has pledge a more than one-to-one match on the total cost of the project.
“It will cost $8.1 million to make these upgrades to the Wade,” said Senator Reinert. “My bill seeks less than half of that cost from the state, making this proposal one of the most competitive bonding proposals out there.”
The proposal was well received by the committee, and as with all bonding proposals, will be considered for inclusion in the Senate Bonding bill later in the session.
