Leading up to session last Thursday, DFLers were in negotiations with Republicans to provide Emergency Housing Assistance Grants. Unfortunately, those negotiations broke down before an agreement could be reached. While the Legislature is not meeting formally right now, many conversations are still occurring. DFLers have reached out to Republicans in the hopes of providing urgent assistance to renters, homeowners, and rental property owners.
The Emergency Housing Assistance Grants would have helped certain renters and homeowners who were impacted by COVID-19 to pay their rent and mortgage while facing a public health-related emergency. The money would serve a dual purpose in that it would help keep people stay in their homes and allow property owners to pay their lenders. Landlord and tenant organizations are asking for $100 million in assistance.
