Senate DFL Caucus Leader Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook, released the following statement today regarding the Governor’s revised budget proposal:
“From the beginning of this session, Gov. Dayton has proven time and again his commitment to compromise and bipartisan cooperation. Today’s announcement just reinforces that Gov. Dayton is committed to finishing this session on time and with a balanced budget solution.
I expect that the budget approach offered by Gov. Dayton today would have near-unanimous support from the Senate DFL Caucus. The Governor has presented a fair and balanced approach to tackling this budget crisis, and one that is consistent with what Minnesotans expect from this legislative session.
Republican leaders have yet to identify one single way they will compromise with Gov. Dayton to make sure we complete our work on-time. Nor have they they identified a single way their budget asks anything of the wealthiest Minnesotans in solving this budget crisis. Republicans continue to choose to protect the richest Minnesotans and large corporations at the expense of middle-class Minnesotans and the most vulnerable in our state. This is the wrong direction for Minnesota.
The Star Tribune poll released this weekend shows that Minnesotans expect us to find compromise and common ground. While the Governor is working hard to find that common ground, it’s clear Republican leaders still have their feet stuck in cement.”
