Sen. Hoffman: Bonding for important local projects

Throughout this session, I’ve proposed over 70 million dollars in bonding projects to address various issues of importance to our community. These range from improving safety and easing congestion on our roads to taking care of several critical areas in our district. I will continue to advocate for each project below to enhance Champlin, Coon Rapids and Brooklyn Park for all of us who live there.

I have two projects for the North Hennepin Community College campus that I will work to have included in the final bill bonding bill. The first project requires $800,000 for the badly needed replacement of boilers for their heating system, and the second requires $140,000 for repair and renovation of the air conditioning system.

I have been and will continue to be a strong advocate for improvements to Champlin’s Mississippi Point Park. I am chief author of legislation to make the park more ADA accessible through a better boat docking system, improved grading to create usable open space and improved drainage. The bonding request includes funding to upgrade the picnic pavilion, stabilize the shoreline, provide improved and more accessible parking, and add to the Mississippi River Trail system.

I’m a co-author of legislation to renovate the Rum River Dam to serve as a barrier to invasive carp and protect the river’s watershed. Invasive carp have been making their way up the Mississippi River system over the past several decades, causing serious damage to native fish populations. This dam will protect fishing and reduce further damage to recreational and commercial opportunities along the river. I will be pushing hard to make sure the Rum River Dam is prioritized as session moves forward.

I am the chief author of legislation to appropriate $30 million in Trunk Highway bonds to construct additional lanes on U.S. Hwy. 10; specifically, the funds will add a third lane on both sides of the highway from Hanson Blvd. in Coon Rapids to 7th Avenue in Anoka. The second bill I’ve introduced also asks for $30 million in bonding to add a third lane to both directions on Hwy. 10, from Hanson Blvd. to Round Lake Blvd. in Coon Rapids. These bonding proposals could accelerate funds to fix the high congestion and safety concerns along this corridor of Hwy. 10.
