ST. PAUL, Minn. –The Minnesota Tourism Growth Coalition recently thanked Sen. David Tomassoni (DFL-Chisholm), Chair of the Senate Environment and Economic Development committee, for his tireless work on helping raise tourism funding during the last 2013-2014 Legislative sessions. The Coalition awarded Tomassoni with its 2015 Tourism Leadership Award during the Minnesota Tourism Conference at the RiverCentre in St. Paul this week.
The Coalition tasks Explore Minnesota Tourism with its advertising in Minnesota and surrounding states, and it has the honor of promoting why our state is such a great place to visit. It’s also responsible for listicles like ‘20 Reasons to Explore Minnesota,’ which includes ideas like tax-free shopping, wonderful wildlife, winter carnivals and river town retreats.
“Tourism is a major economic driver in our state with a $13 billion economic impact, accounting for 17% of our sales tax and helping promote that is in the best interests of state government. I’ve personally had the opportunity to see all corners of Minnesota, it’s a beautiful state and I’m proud of the work we’ve done to help increase tourism funding after years of declining appropriations,” said Tomassoni. “I’m honored to receive this award.”
