Senate discusses possible change for the Blue Earth County Library Board

Tim Hayes, Director of the Blue Earth County Library System, joined Senator Kathy Sheran (DFL-Mankato) today in the Senate’s State and Local Government Committee to discuss the duties and operations of their board. Sen. Sheran has authored legislation that will waive a requirement of the library board to manage fiscal and personnel issues and authorize the County of Blue Earth to administer these functions.

Currently, the county performs these services, but the state statue for County Boards says otherwise. The legislative change would simply ensure current practice is in line with statute.

Similar legislation has passed in recent years for the counties of Hennepin, Carver and Washington. The legislation has also received support from the Blue Earth County Board of Commissioners and the Minnesota Library Board.
