Senate Tax Committee recommends confirmation of Commissioner Myron Frans

Last Tuesday, the Tax Committee recommended confirmation of Myron Frans as Commissioner of Revenue and sent it to the floor. The vote was unanimous and I look forward to working with Commissioner Frans.
Since he was appointed in 2011, Commissioner Frans has proved invaluable to accomplishing our goal of a fair and equitable tax system. He works well with legislators from both sides of the aisle and seeks input from the public. This past summer, Commissioner Frans conducted 162 “tax reform” meetings in more than 50 cities. More than 7,000 Minnesotans, including 84 legislators, attended the meetings. Commissioner Frans recognizes that our current tax system is broken and as we reform it, I welcome his well-rounded advice.
Using the feedback he received from thousands of Minnesotans over the summer, Commissioner Frans worked closely with the Governor to craft a comprehensive budget proposal. He gave us an overview of the Governor’s budget’s main components. Though there are many aspects to the Governor’s plan, I am pleased Gov. Dayton’s budget proposal is structurally balanced. The initiatives put forth by Gov. Dayton provide the state with a balanced budget for the next four years. This will put Minnesota in a great position to reap the benefits of an economic turnaround and end at least a decade of divisive budget balancing battles at the Capitol.
