(St. Paul, MN)- Senate leadership has appointed Senator Alice Johnson (DFL-Blaine) to the conference committee for the Education Finance Omnibus bill. Sen. Johnson and the other four conferees will work with five House members to resolve the differences between the House and Senate versions of the high-profile Education Finance bill.
“I’m honored to have been named to the conference committee,” said Sen. Johnson. “Education has always been my primary focus at the legislature, and I’m excited to continue our work on crafting the best possible legislation for our students and our schools.”
The Senate version of the Education Finance Omnibus includes a basic formula increase of one percent for each of the next two years, which is higher than the House increase. It also funds an expansion of a highly successful school readiness program and funding changes to school facilities improvements. Sen. Johnson’s provisions on school breakfasts and vision examinations are included as part of her long-standing efforts to combat non-academic barriers to learning. The rest of the bill is made up of several provisions which strengthen Minnesota schools and students alike, including enhancing teacher quality, bolstering career and college readiness, and technology education.
