Senator Chuck Wiger, District 43, was recently honored with the 2015 ABE Legislative Award in appreciation of his long-term commitment to Adult Basic Education (ABE), which provides educational opportunities for adults throughout Minnesota.
“Senator Wiger always has an open door on education issues,” said a LAN Board member in presenting the award. “He has taken the time to really understand the work we do. The reason for this is his understanding and care for the low skilled adults served through our programs. He has also always respected the role of ABE teachers in their hard but important work.”
A number of legislative efforts in which Sen. Wiger has played an important role were cited. These included assistance in the creation of the new Minnesota State Adult Diploma, and keeping ABE funding intact.
Senator Wiger was honored on Thursday, Aug. 20, at an awards banquet being held during the 2015 ABE Summer Institute in St. Cloud.
